Born on January 1, 1922, Luwum served as the Bishop of Kampala from 1974 until his tragic death in 1977. His courageous stand against the oppressive regime of Idi Amin made him a powerful voice for justice and peace during a dark chapter in our nation’s history.
Bishop Luwum was known for his unwavering commitment to speaking out against human rights abuses and advocating for the marginalized. His fearless dedication to truth and justice ultimately led to his arrest and untimely death on February 16, 1977. He is remembered as a martyr who paid the ultimate price for his faith and principles.
